Re-enabling two-factor authentication (2FA) and the authenticator
This guide explains how to re-enable two-factor authentication and the authenticator app in the Maventa service. It covers setting up the app both when the old device is still available and accounts are transferred directly to the new phone, and when access to the old device is no longer possible. In the latter case, authentication is reconfigured using the emergency code. The guide also explains how to request a new emergency code from customer support if the original emergency code has been lost.
- Re-enabling the authenticator when the old device is available
- Re-enabling the authenticator when the old device can't be used
This guide covers re-enabling two-factor authentication and the authenticator app in the Maventa service.
The method you choose depends on whether your previous device is still available or whether you no longer have access to it.
Option A: Re-enabling the authenticator when the old device is available
If you're setting up a new phone and your previous device is still available, you can transfer your authenticator accounts to the new phone as follows:
📍 Note: this guide is based on how the Google Authenticator app works. There may be small differences in the menus depending on the app.
-
Install the app: install Google Authenticator (or another authenticator app) on the new phone.
-
Open the transfer function on the old device: open the authenticator app on the old device and select the menu in the top left corner.
-
Generate the QR code: select "Transfer accounts" and then "Export accounts". The app will generate a QR code on screen.
-
Import the accounts to the new device: in the authenticator app on the new phone, select "Import accounts" and scan the QR code shown on the old device's screen.
The account(s) and their six-digit code will now appear in the authenticator app on your new device.
Option B: Re-enabling the authenticator when the old device can't be used
If the authenticator's six-digit code doesn't work, or you no longer have access to the old device (e.g. because you've changed phones), two-factor authentication is re-enabled using the emergency code.
You'll need the emergency code you saved when you first logged in, to reconfigure this. Proceed as follows:
-
Remove the old account: remove the Maventa account from the authenticator app, if it's still there.
-
Go to the login page: go to the Maventa login page.
-
Enter your username: enter your username and click the Next button.
-
Enter your password: enter your password and click the Next button.
-
Change the authentication method: select "Try another way" instead of entering the six-digit code.
-
Select the emergency code option: select "Use a one-time emergency code"
-
Enter the emergency code: enter the one-time emergency code you saved earlier, or received by email, and confirm.
-
Confirm loss of access: select "I've permanently lost access to the Authenticator app".
-
Start the reinstallation: two-factor authentication setup will start. Click "I use a different Authenticator app". If you're using Visma Authenticator, click "Next".
-
Scan the new QR code: scan the QR code with the authenticator app, or enter it manually. Once the code has been added to the app, click "Next".
-
Enter the verification code: enter the new six-digit code shown in the authenticator app and click "Next".
-
Save the new emergency code: the system will generate a new emergency code. Save this code somewhere safe (you can copy the code using the button next to it).
Tick "I've copied and saved the code" and then click "Next". This new emergency code can be used in future if you run into problems with the six-digit code. -
Confirmation: a confirmation will appear on screen that two-factor verification has been successfully enabled. After the confirmation, click "Next".
-
Complete the login: you have now successfully logged in.
What to do if you don't have the emergency code
If you no longer have the emergency code, contact Maventa customer support. Customer support will send a new emergency code to the email address linked to your username.
Once you've received the new emergency code by email, reactivate the authenticator's six-digit code by following the instructions in the Option B section above (steps 1–14).
