Suppliers to the Belgian federal government must submit e-invoices for contracts with a starting date after March 1, 2024, and valued above €3,000
Contracts < €3,000 are exempt, but individual entities may require it
The standard format required is Peppol BIS Billing 3.0, which aligns with the EU Directive 2014/55/EU on electronic invoicing
B2B e-invoicing
Effective from 1.1.2026, e-invoicing will become mandatory for B2B transactions
The preferred e-invoicing format will be Peppol BIS 3.0; other EN16931-compliant formats can be used if both parties agreeE-reporting
By 2028, Belgium will implement near-real-time electronic reporting of transaction data to combat VAT fraud and enhance tax compliance
