Setting up Two-Factor Authentication (2FA)

This guide provides instructions on how to install and set up an authenticator when logging into Maventa. Logging into Maventa requires two-factor authentication using an authenticator application.

Two step authentication

Two-factor authentication is used to log into Maventa, and any standard authenticator app is suitable. The application is linked to your Maventa account by scanning a QR code or entering a secret key manually.

An authenticator is a free application downloaded onto a computer or mobile device that generates secure 6-digit login codes that change every 30 seconds.

For Visma Connect login, you can use any standard authenticator application or software.

General Use of Authenticators

  • Download and open your chosen authenticator application on your device (phone or computer).

  • Add a new account/item to the application:

    • On a phone: Scan the QR code displayed on the screen using the application's camera function.

    • On a computer: Copy the text-format key (Secret Key) displayed on the screen into the software's key field.

  • The application will start generating a 6-digit code that changes every 30 seconds. Enter this code to log into Maventa.

ℹ️ If you need guidance on installing or using an authenticator, we recommend consulting the relevant application provider's own instructions.

💡 Tip: If installing the application on your device is unsuccessful, try another application or install a browser extension.

Setting up the Authenticator

When you register a new account in Maventa or are added as a user to an existing Maventa account, you will receive an activation link by email. During your first login, you will set a new password for your account and activate two-factor authentication (2FA).

💡 Note for existing users: If you already have an existing username and password but have not yet enabled two-factor authentication (2FA), go directly to Step 1 (point 3) and log in with your current credentials.

Step 1: Set a new password / Log in

  1. Click the activation link in the "Welcome to the Maventa service" email you received.
  2. Enter a new password twice and select Change.
  3. Log in: Enter your email address and password. (If you already have credentials, start here). You can access our login pages here.

Step 2: Enable Two-Factor Authentication (2FA)

  1. The Add an extra layer of security view will open on the screen. Click Next.
  2. Select an authentication application:
    • If using the Visma Authenticator app, follow the instructions on the screen.
    • If using another app (e.g. Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator, or software installed on a computer), select I use another Authenticator app at the bottom.
  3. Link the app or software:
    • Open the authenticator on your device (phone or computer).
    • Scan the QR code displayed on the screen with your phone's camera/app or copy the text-format key into the computer's authenticator software.
    • Click Next.
  4. Enter the verification code:
    • Enter the 6-digit code generated by your authenticator into the field and select Next.

Step 3: Backup method and emergency code

  1. SMS verification (optional):
    • You can add your phone number as a backup method or proceed by clicking Next.
  2. One-time emergency code (important!):
    • Copy or save the emergency code displayed on the screen. You will need this if your device is lost or replaced. (If the emergency code is lost, you can obtain a new code from our support, and instructions for re-installing two-factor authentication can be found on our support pages here).
    • Check the box "I have safely copied and stored this code" and click Done.

Your login setup is now complete and you will be automatically redirected to Maventa.

❓ Troubleshooting: "Incorrect Code" Issues

If you receive an error message when entering the 6-digit code:

  • Verify the correct code: Ensure that you enter the code generated specifically for Maventa / Visma Connect from the authenticator, and not accidentally a code for another service.
  • Enter the code without punctuation: Type the six digits in sequence without spaces or extra characters.
  • Note code expiration: The code changes every 30 seconds – if it is about to change, wait for the new code and try again.
  • Check the device clock: Authenticator codes rely on accurate time. Check your phone or computer settings to ensure your device's clock is set to automatic time.
  • Start setup from the beginning: If the code still does not work, remove the created account from the authenticator app, go back in the login screen, and scan the QR code (or enter the key) again.

If you require additional instructions for installing a third-party authenticator (e.g. Google or Microsoft) or transferring accounts to a new phone, we recommend consulting the relevant application provider's own user guide.
