Maventa is participating in the Peppol ViDA pilot to enhance VAT reporting in Europe

At Maventa, we’re committed to helping companies work smarter with safe, accessible, and efficient trade document exchange. As part of this mission, we’re proud to announce taking part in a Peppol ViDA pilot aiming to enhance VAT reporting in Europe.

Customer feedback driving Maventa’s involvement

The Peppol ViDA pilot, led by OpenPeppol prompted by the Nordic Smart Government & Business, aims to demonstrate the capability of Peppol e-invoice specifications and the Peppol Network to fulfil the Digital Reporting Requirements (DRR) set by the ViDA legislation and future e-invoicing mandates anticipated in many European countries.

“Having the capabilities in place for e-invoicing and for fulfilling the DRR will eventually be mandatory for all companies within the EU. Maventa is part of the Peppol ViDA pilot to help make businesses across Europe future-ready and compliant with minimal impact on their business operations,” Heikki Malkamäki, Managing Director of Maventa, explains.

Over 15 tax authorities and other governmental bodies from EU countries have shown interest in building the solution over the Peppol network. The role of the service provider consists of defining use cases and message flows, developing enterprise and solution architecture for DRR, including technical specifications, and implementing and testing these flows and frameworks.

Participating in the pilot from the very beginning was essential for us at Maventa to ensure one thing first and foremost - the solution being aligned with the customer needs.

“It’s important for us to be involved as we’ll be a major service provider in the ecosystem. We want to take part in the project from the very beginning and ensure the technical solution takes into account the needs of our customers", Risto Collanus, Service Owner, Maventa, adds.

VAT in the Digital Age

VAT in the Digital Age (ViDA) is a recently approved legislative package in the European Union aimed at modernising VAT reporting and compliance through digital advancements, including mandatory e-invoicing and real-time reporting. As a result, the ViDA package brings significant change to VAT compliance across the EU.

Peppol’s 5-corner model supporting ViDA

Peppol has developed a universal any-to-any framework where invoices reliably reach their recipients in standard Peppol format, such as Peppol BIS, with the help of Peppol’s directory. This system operates under the “4-corner-model” which allows certified service providers - like Maventa - within the Peppol ecosystem to help customers exchange e-invoices effortlessly.

In addition, this model facilitates the integration of a country’s tax authority as the “5th corner”, enabling the simultaneous submission of e-invoices to both the recipient’s service provider and the tax authority, ensuring compliance and transparency in the process.

Collaboration also beyond the pilot

The e-invoicing landscape is being shaped by governments, businesses, organisations, and technology providers. We take pride in our active contribution to driving the change together with other industry stakeholders.

We’re actively collaborating with Peppol Authorities in various countries, extending our engagement beyond the ViDA pilot.

Our involvement with Peppol includes participation in three Change Management Boards - eDeC, PoAC, and APP - which are responsible for making decisions and taking positions on member-raised issues. These boards oversee various aspects of the Peppol framework: eDeC focuses on document transport, PoAC on document format and information content, and APP on the contractual framework that Peppol operates under.

Additionally, we’re actively participating in local and international industry forums such as GENA, NEA, and TIEKE. Then again, in collaboration with local tax authorities, we aim to foster the sustainable adoption of e-invoicing.

It’s the time to update your invoicing to meet the compliance requirements. Choose an e-invoicing provider with vast experience in Europe.
